Born and raised in Indiana, Jeanie Stittsworth learned and fell in love with the art of mosaics. From a young age she found beauty and expression in colors, shapes, and textures. She experimented in many different artistic mediums before finally discovering mosaics.
Jeanie has been influenced by many cultures and experiences. Scenes from the green grasses of Ireland, the blue waves of Costa Rica, the bustled streets of Manhattan, and the serene quiet of the Smokey Mountains have all been inspirational in the making of her pieces. Over the past few years, her own personal style has begun to develop more clearly as glass has become her most used medium and her unique style has taken hold.
The process of taking each scattered piece of glass and assembling them to create a unified image is the driving force behind her projects. Jeanie makes use several different kinds of sheet glass: opal, streaky, cathedral, and opalume. The characteristics of each add personality and originality to her works. In addition to glass, she also uses stones, gems, and ceramics.
Jeanie’s adventures will continue to shape her life and her art as she develops as a person and an artist.
